Game Production II Blog Post 4 Final

So, it’s been a while.  Things have been a bit hectic since the outbreak of COVID-19, so I haven’t really gotten a chance to write another blog since then.  I’ve been working on the level design and running QA for Five-Finger Gunslinger, and it’s been going really well!  I started by doing a lot of research for first-person shooter level design, as I’ve mostly done level designs for only 2D games, so I wanted to learn as much as I could before I actually started.  After I had done a bit of research, I sketched out a rough level layout on grid paper to show my team what I was thinking for the overall level.

Next, I worked on making a basic greybox for the level.  I used unity’s built in terrain features, as well as just grey cubes to start out.  While I was doing that, I also worked on making a digital version of the previous sketch, just so that we could have a more official version to look at in our documentation.

Later, I updated the greybox to add some color and make it look more like what it will when we get some more art assets in the game.  The last thing I’ve been doing has been putting together QA forms and having people test our game, so that we could iterate it based on their feedback and improve the game overall.

The game’s progress has been astounding so far, given the circumstances.  I’m really impressed with how much we’ve gotten done on this game in the short time I’ve been working on it. This is the end of the semester, so the class that we’ve been working on this project in has ended. However, we’ve decided to continue working on the game over the summer, because we want to see how far we can take it. I’m not sure if I’ll keep doing blog posts, but I might!  Just for fun, here’s some GIFs of the current gameplay!
